Silver Apples

Description

Silver Apples is another painting of mine I did when I was really into studying color theory. I also was still discovering all the many ways to use watercolor paint. Applying in thin washes first for the entire painting and then thicker and thicker applications afterward. The cut apples in the bowl use mostly the paper and very few washes and details. Trying to make cut apples look fresher than they really look in real life was the biggest challenge for me while painting this. I wanted them to look like they were real, (showing all the many details the inside of an apple has), but not so worked that they came across fake looking. I used close up photographs of these apples that I took right after cutting them (for reference) to capture the "fresh" color and the texture, etc... The background colors were interesting as well, I didn't have a cloth or colored anything to set them that was as forest green as this ended up, so there was a lot of guessing and patience used when painting the reflected colors in the silver. Super fun painting to paint though.
